Chappelle Knows All Five

Jeremy Chappelle was not a heralded major college football prospect out of Jacksonville High in his hometown of Jacksonville, Texas. After considering a couple of options, Chappelle inked with Stephen F. Austin of the Southland Conference. After one season in Nacogdoches, Chappelle elected to enroll at Tyler Junior College to chase his major college dreams.

"When I was coming out of high school, I had offers from SFA (Stephen F. Austin), Texas State and Kilgore," said Chappelle. "I really didn't want to go to junior college back then, so I picked SFA over Texas State.

"I just felt like the offense at SFA fit me better."

After one season with the Lumberjacks, Chappelle enrolled at Tyler Junior College.

"I feel like that was one of the best decisions I ever made," said Chappelle. "Things have really worked out for me here.

"We had a good season this year. Things didn't end the way we wanted it to at the end, but we fought hard and had a good year.

"I was hoping we were going to have a chance to play for it all, but it didn't work out."

With a strong sophomore campaign under his belt, Chappelle has collected offers from all over the country.

Schools as far from home as Hawaii and as near as Texas A&M have shown interest in the talented receiver joining their programs this coming spring.

"Everybody that has offered me all seem to be real serious about me," said Chappelle. "I am looking at everybody, but I am going to take my five visits and see how I fit in.

"I am going to Texas A&M this weekend, then Louisiana Tech, West Virginia and Houston. Mississippi State is going to be the fifth school I visit, but I am talking with them about a date.

"I'll probably go there before I go to Houston."

Chappelle reports that all five schools he plans to visit are on pretty much on an even playing field.

"I want to go somewhere that has a great quarterback who can get me the ball," said Chappelle. "I don't have to be in a pass first offense, but I want to go somewhere they like to throw the ball.

"I am a good blocker, but I don't want to go somewhere to run the option.

"I am going to see all of the schools, meet the coaches and then see which place is the best for me."

Chappelle is scheduled to graduate in December and enroll at the school of his choosing in time for spring practice.
