Much has been written about George Daily-Lyles, the (relatively) diminutive linebacker/defensive end with the big heart and the better attitude. Coming out of famous Long Beach Poly High School in California, George had a dream of playing for USC before moving onto the NFL. And while it hasn't exactly worked out that way, it seems fitting that George played the first game of his career for UH against them, and will play the first game of his last season at UH against them as well.
Despite some fairly high expectations, George's productivity (at least as far as on-field statistics go) has declined over the last three seasons (he appeared in 10, 8 and 7 games over this time) he's never seemed to lost his enthusiasm or his overall love for the game. And when we met last Saturday, this had not changed one bit. When I asked him about his position change? "I'll go wherever the coaches tell me to go and do whatever they tell me to do." And about his dancing? "Of course I've got to keep it fresh!" Good luck this season George! All of your future successes could not be more appropriate or justified.
