Much has been written about George Daily-Lyles, the (relatively) diminutive linebacker/defensive end with the big heart and the better attitude. Coming out of the famous Long Beach Poly High School in California, George had a dream of playing for USC before moving onto the NFL. And while it hasn't exactly worked out for him that way, it seems fitting that George played the first game of his career for UH against them, and will play the first game of his last season at UH against them as well.
Despite some fairly high expectations, George's productivity (at least as far as on-field statistics go) has declined over the last three seasons (he appeared in 10, 8 and 7 games respectively over this time). And through it all, he's never seemed to lose his enthusiasm or overall love for the game. And when we met last Saturday, this came out full bore.
When I asked him about his position change? "I'll go wherever the coaches tell me to go and do whatever they tell me to do." And about his dancing? "Of course I've got to keep it fresh!" And finally, about his excitement for the upcoming season. "We've got a great team and a great group of guys. I expect big things for us this season man!" Good luck to you George! All of your future successes could not be more appropriate or justified.
