Hawaii Basketball Exhibition Casualties
Exhibition games are great, especially in basketball. There is a lightness to them, where players aren't killing themselves, but they're also showcasing skills and taking chances that they might not ordinarily do in a real game. There are, however, risks to this, and Brandon Spearman knows this all too well now. The picture that you see above is his foot, after he received treatment on it. He can't say what the injury is, or what his timetable for a return to the court is, but he called the news "positive". Which is great. After the game, all the guys on the team were understandably somber. Winning a game that didn't count in the standings was fine if everyone got off scot free. That way excitement built for the season, but no one got hurt. When Spearman went down, however, that all changed. Suddenly it was less about having fun, and more about everyone making it through unscathed (when Quincy Smith hobbled off just before halftime I almost threw the controller through the TV.) With the struggles of the football program, basketball is my biggest hope for a successful UH team. I want to see an NCAA berth. I want to see exciting plays. And I want everyone to stay healthy. Get well soon Brandon!
