A total of 20 players have committed to play for the Warriors in 2005.
"I feel very good about this class of kids in all aspects, from athletically to character and being that they are from all over the country," Jones said. "We are still very committed to going after the best athletes out there, but we got a little side tracked this year because we had some immediate needs to fill and I feel like we did that."
Of the 20 signings, seven have come from local high schools, fulfilling a commitment to local recruiting Jones made when he took the post in 1999.
"I think we got everyone that we wanted locally," Jones said. "One guy that we were hoping was going to stay got away, but overall we feel like we accomplished everything that we wanted to and feel very good about our local recruits."
The roster includes seven players on offense and 11 on defense, and two who could play on either side of the ball. Jones signed four players on the offensive line, four on the defensive line, four linebackers, two in the defensive secondary, and three slot or wide receivers. In addition, three players are listed as multiple position player, including Kirk Alexander (DB/WR), Mario Cox (RB/LB), and Johon Fonoti (DL/LB).
For the first time since arriving on campus in 1999, Jones did not sign a quarterback, after signing at least one in each of the previous recruiting classes.
"We have a lot of young kids that are going to be players," Jones said. "We are going to sort it out in the spring and proceed along that way, but I'm very confident in the kids we have on campus."
